"Birmingham
to Gleneagles"
It's been a long journey since
the G7 leaders were confronted by mass peaceful debt campaigners
at the Birmingham summit in 1998. Promises have been made, but
despite apparent good will and success stories of countries qualifying
for debt relief, much remains to be done. The journey for the
poorest countries has been painfully slow with false starts and
more rhetoric than reality.
The Debt Campaign really started in 1998 and to mark the journey
we would like to make the link between Birmingham then and Gleneagles
in 2005.
What better way to do this than
a bike ride?!?.
We'll be providing entertainment
as we go and campaigning to keep the focus of the leaders of the
richest countries in the world (including GB) on their (and our)
responsibilities to the poorest people in the world.
Would you like to join us for all or part of the journey? Or could
we pass through your community and heighten awareness as we go?
