Civil society within South Africa and around the globe are mobilising to prevent the World Bank granting a new $3.75 billion loan to energy company Eskom in South Africa to finance their investment in the Medupi coal-fired power plant. Jubilee Scotland is supporting this campaign as this debt represents yet another example of bad lending by an International Financial Institution, imposing a significant debt burden on a South Africa while not ensuring that the benefits reach ordinary people.
Jubilee Scotland is committed to strengthening the grassroots debt campaign in Scotland. If your school, faith group or local campaigning group would be interested in learning about the latest developments and actions in the debt justice campaign at first hand, please call us on 0131 225 4321 and we will be delighted to arrange for a speaker to come to your area.
Jubilee Scotland is extremely grateful for the support of volunteers past and present, who have taken a full part in the development of the organisation. In return we are committed to providing solid and meaningful internships that will stretch and develop volunteers by giving them responsibility for specific areas of the organisation's work.
Jubilee Scotland is currently seeking a Media Intern to raise the profile of the movement in Scottish national and regional media. Please email the office at mail@jubileescotland.org.uk for an application pack. The application deadline is 24/03/10.
