TAKE ONE: ACTION!
People and Movies that are Changing the World
FILMHOUSE 13 - 27 September 2008

Take One: Action! is the UK's first major film festival all about people and movies that are changing the world. The festival celebrates Scotland's global connections and explores global challenges - from climate change to corporate responsibility to arm trades.
This festival offers a unique chance for audiences to find out about and to get involved with the work of Scottish change-makers.

Each film will be followed by an audience discussion in the cinema and will be linked to an action which - if we take it together - will help to change the world.

Jubilee Scotland takes part in the festival with the 2006 court room drama Bamako.

This film brings sharply into relief the effects of globalisation in Africa, highlighting the pros and cons of the international community's highly dubious treatment of debt-ridden countries. The calm, the pacing, and the balance between the voices which defend and attack the World Bank, gives the final verdict a power that seems unsurpassable: until the final witness comes forward.

Thu 18th Sep 18:00

The film will be followed by commentary and Q&A with Gaoussou Koita, radio journalist and activist from Bamako, and interpreted by Clare Coughlan (Centre of African Studies).

The festival's exciting programme is all about inspiring the Scottish audiences to develop their power as global citizens!
