Road to St Andrews - 26th September

The G20 Finance Ministers are meeting in St Andrews on the 7th of November to plan the way forward for the global economy. Jubilee Scotland will be there alongside other campaigners to demand that this is a pro-poor solution, which addresses the issues of irresponsible finance that underlay the collapse.

Jubilee Scotland - in association with Christian Aid, the World Development Movement and the Take One Action film festival – is organising a meeting in Central Edinburgh on the 26th of September to enable campaigners to prepare and organise for this event. With inspiring international speakers and practical campaigning workshops the emphasis will be firmly on empowerment, meeting other like-minded campaigners and taking action. Bangladesh Civil Society mobilises against external control of climate fund

On the 1st of September Bangladeshi civil society mobilised to form a human wall in front of the National Press Club, Dhaka to protest against the World Bank's control of their climate change adaptation fund. The fund has been given to Bangladesh to mitigate the terrible effects of climate change in the country but has not been given to the sovereign government to administer. Speakers at the rally criticised the UK's Department for International Development for pushing for Bank control of the fund of US $20 million, when it has a proven track record of managing the fund.
